What feels like a million years ago, I used to blog for a certain internationally listened-to paranormal podcast. One of the first posts I constructed was about my personal experience in far northern Maine where I saw (by the truest definition) a UFO. Here's my story.
I was about 15 or 16 at the time and went on a vacation with my first girlfriend and her sister and parents to her father's old hometown near Presque Isle, Maine. This was back in the late 90s so you have to realize that when you got that far north half the people didn't even have phones. And, I'm not talking about cell phones, this was before that. I mean landline phones. In this town, the gas station was the grocery store was the video rental store, and so on. For those of you who know me, you know that I am very much a woods and mountains type of guy. But, back then, the city was basically all I knew. I felt very out of place at this time but, somehow, buried deep inside of me, I could feel a yearning for something like this place in my future.
My father had told me a story many times of a trip he had taken to Maine when he was younger with a bunch of his buddies. He claimed that they saw lights in the sky and reported them to a local radio station who told them they were getting calls from all over the area about these lights. I was fascinated. Plus, I had never seen a moose before so, what better place to see one than in Maine, right?
The second or third night we were there we went to her father's friend's house for a BBQ. We had a great time but, as dusk approached, we packed up and headed back to her father's family house. On the ride back we were on a two-lane road that should have been a one-lane road with deep woods on either side of the minivan. Being teenagers and way too cool to sit too close to her family, my girlfriend at the time and I sat in the far back seats. I was looking out the window (it was fully dark now) for a moose in the woods. What I saw confused me, greatly.
I was on the passenger side of the car. Behind me and above the tree line was a ball of yellow/orange light--hovering. At first, I thought it was the reflection of a headlight but then I realized there were no other cars on the road. Then I thought it was a reflection of our headlight but realized there were no signs or any other thing to reflect the light back and above us. I stared, awestruck. A strange feeling took over me and then it darted off. I remember seeing the streak of light in the sky as the ball disappeared. Later that night I told my then-girlfriend who could see how shaken I was and believed my story. Well, at least she told me then that she believed my story.
During our stay I was allowed to sleep on the floor next to her bed. Remember, we were only 15/16 years old and staying in her grandparent's house. No way was I going to be allowed to sleep in bed with her. That night, and many, MANY nights afterward the same sort of events began to take place. Never before had they happened and never since with any other girlfriend has it ever happened.
That night, my right hand found its way up onto the bed with her. It's important to note my right hand because, no matter how awkward the movement may be, it was always my right hand, for years after the events of that night. At our young age, she always told me that she just suspected that I was trying to get a little handsy. My hand would touch her legs and then move up to her stomach then eventually her face and neck. There were several times, that night including when she'd wake me up because my hand would begin to choke her. I would never have any knowledge of this whatsoever. She'd yell at me and ask me what the hell I was doing but I'd have no understanding or knowledge of what she was talking about and simply go back to sleep. In later months and years, she would report that I would get out of bed, walk to the nearest window, open it, and stare up into the sky (eyes wide open though I'd be fully asleep). She'd call my name and I would apparently get very angry but climb back into bed and sleep. Again, I would have no recollection of this at all.
Many years later, when I began blogging for this site, this was one of my first stories. During my research I came across reports of UFO activity in that area, and indeed at the Air Force base in the town we stayed in, dating back decades. This validated a lot of what I believed to be true from that night. Mind you, I am calling this a UFO encounter in the truest sense. An Unidentified Flying Object. I'm not stressing extraterrestrials, but something happened that night. Something that I've never been able to explain. The strangest part is, this movement with my right hand, this walking to the window and staring into the sky, never happened with anyone else, only with the person I was with that night.
So tell me, what do you believe? Have you ever had a UFO encounter? I'd love to hear all about it.
